{"id":543,"date":"2015-02-19T08:09:19","date_gmt":"2015-02-19T13:09:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/roseshadowranch.com\/?p=543"},"modified":"2015-02-19T14:52:47","modified_gmt":"2015-02-19T19:52:47","slug":"sprouting-for-chickens","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/roseshadowranch.com\/?p=543","title":{"rendered":"Sprouting For Chickens"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"fcbkbttn_buttons_block\" id=\"fcbkbttn_left\"><div class=\"fcbkbttn_button\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/roseshadowranch.com\/wp-content\/plugins\/facebook-button-plugin\/images\/standard-facebook-ico.png?w=584&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Fb-Button\" \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/a>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div><div class=\"fcbkbttn_like \"><fb:like href=\"https:\/\/roseshadowranch.com\/?p=543\" action=\"like\" colorscheme=\"light\" layout=\"standard\"  width=\"225px\" size=\"small\"><\/fb:like><\/div><\/div><p>Ever wonder how you can get your chickens access to fresh, healthy green matter in the dead of winter when everything is dormant, frozen or snow covered without the added expense of buying it from the grocery store in the produce aisle?<\/p>\n<p>Sprouting is a wonderful and nutritious way to get a lot with just a little and it goes a long way too. \u00a0One of my favorites and the easiest things to sprout is wheat. \u00a0In about 5-7 days you&#8217;ll have fresh greens they will love! \u00a01 quart jar gives plenty of fresh greens to my 12 chickens and 1 ducks for 1 day.<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s how:<\/p>\n<p>~Start with a large mason jar with ring, fill bottom with about a half inch of raw wheat, fill the rest of the jar with cold water. \u00a0Put cheese cloth over the opening of the jar and secure with ring. \u00a0Let sit in a cool dark place, in a kitchen cabinet works well, or like me, I leave mine behind our coffee pot on the counter, be sure to keep it out of direct sunlight.<\/p>\n<p>~After 24 hours drain water, rinse, drain again and let sit. \u00a0Rinse and drain every 12 hours after that. This step is very important!
